Then lack of ... By: 6EELZE6U6666. on 14 May 12, 08:52:48 Then lack of practice is not the issue. Try for a short time playing with no anchoring at all, this means not even placing your palm on the bridge. Try and emphasize the arks that your pick must travel to alternate pick correctly. Remember that picking straight up and down wont cut it, you need to rotate your wrist as well, this way string crossing is 100x easier because the pick is already high enough to pass over? the next string. Stay relaxed, push through your frustration.
That's economy ... By: DaveyVsGodzilla. on 08 May 12, 17:56:21 That's economy picking (made famous by fusion virtuoso Frank Gambale). I'd say it's only worth the time if you really love the sound it creates at high speeds. It sounds a bit like tiny sweeps mixed into alternate picking - a bit looser sounding. Alternate? picking sounds more locked in and consistent - "tick tock, tick tock". Nearly all of the fastest players use strict alternate picking, so despite the logic behind it, you're not going to play significantly faster with economy picking.
Given a few minutes ... By: DaveyVsGodzilla. on 08 May 12, 17:50:15 Given a few minutes with a pick, pretty much anyone can learn to tremolo pick far faster than they can accurately play with their fretting hand. The trick to being a master picker is to synchronize the left and the right hand completely, which means slowing down enormously and learning to do it the correct,? accurate way.
To get control of ... By: MarijnBZut. on 08 May 12, 15:28:54 To get control of your picking, hang your guitar BB King-style (upper tommy-high) rather than Metallica-style (knee-high). It really works! Of course,? try to find your own preferred height, but don't hang your guitar too low!

Think about this: ... By: BekkersBelly. on 05 May 12, 15:20:46 Think about this: If you're playing a regular scale of three notes per string and you're using? alternate picking (down up down up from beginning to the end) your hand is making 33 movements, but let's say if you start on the E string down up down and the next note on the A string is a DOWNSTROKE you can count the last stroke on the E string and the first note on the A string as ONE movement. Then you would be making 25 movements...

When you start? to pick at 6:24. I don't understand if you move only your wrist or or even move your fingers grasping the pick. How can i get speed? To train my wrist or training my two finger? Thnx and sorry for my bad english.

Dude, thanks for all that. I play with a lot of distortion it is very difficult to play clean... you just answered a lot of questions. Questions that? the videos made by pros would not even answer. Rock on dude!!!

How about constructing your own solos, when you'd want to switch between certain scales/arpeggios, or when you shouldn't play scales? and just play whatever sounds/feels right, etc. Or a video about constructing beautiful chord medleys and the use of fills etc. Your videos are great btw =]

This was a brilliant lesson. I already used a few of your ideas, but everything you say is absolutely correct. I can genuinely say just watching this has given me an instant improvement! What other lessons can? say that? Thanks!

I'm guessing we never really understood each other. Therefore, continuing to argue would be pointless. I would hate to think that you would think that I think that practicing is pointless. I, for one, encourage it... a nice little room, some time alone with yourself. It's a form of self discovery. Watching a youtube video takes away from that mystique. I never thought that seeking help was bad, but the more you take away? from this self-discovery, the more I feel like someone loses themselves.

GREAAAAAAAT Video! So well explained, entertaining and with a lot of useful things! You really gotta do more! It would be nice things like: Exercises to win speed, and exercises for noobs to master? some high level technics like tapping, sweep picking, and others. =) Suscribed my friend!

Just wanted to say great video--it was alot of help! I play alot of fast stuff (Satch, Paul Gilbert, etc)? and I have the problem of my last three fingers on my right hand fanning out as the "anchor point" and it has limited my potential speed. Maybe for the next video you could do something with the fret hand, in terms of thumb position, hand curling--something like those. Thanks!

This lesson really helped with a problem ive had for years. My rt index finger was caught in a printing press years ago.It smashed it just past the first knuckle.3 plastic surgerys and 30 years later ,the finger is still fairly numb.Making it hard to hold a pick without it moving around,or dropping it.This lesson esp the part of using your other fingers to curl up and support the index finger.I had been playing? with the other fingers uncurled .I cant thank you enough!!!
