i? love 'em too
By: bobshenix. on 25 May 12, 15:56:07
We'll have to agree to disagree on this one.... i've seen various ballistics tests even if .45 ammo is slow that doesn't matter in your typical home invasion? situation, there is no question it wreaks more havoc inside the target's body than 9mm. But you're right, placement is everything.. you just have a little extra slack when shooting .45 I can't really speak for the .38 special or .40 S&W. I shot the .40 before and found it to be underwhelming especially considering how snappy the recoil is.
By: vnlk65n. on 25 May 12, 09:16:22
You shoot? silhouettes? How many times have you missed the vital zone by 0.097"? Statistically, .38 sp, 9mm, .45ACP, and .40 S&W all have similar rates of incapacitation and failure to stop.

Were? is the Revolver Dragoon?
By: bobshenix. on 24 May 12, 06:11:44
@vnlk65n Exactly, and that's why the .45 has more stopping power than 9mm ammo... the? .45 has an entry/exit wound that makes it more likely to significantly impact the crucial organs. That's the whole point.
By: adamjlemus. on 24 May 12, 06:08:50
I love my M1911? but I often find myself wanting a good old fashioned revolver..... Ok I do have an H&R 732 that was my grandfathers but I want something with power. Something that throws down some 357 or 44mag

You never hear story's of people taking say a .30-06 to upper mass and keep fighting leave all that hollow point mess out the door because military aren't issued those rounds they think its more humane to wound than to kill in most cases i Think. All that aside you never get to hear hollow point? backround storys and why would someone believe random Joe with his one stop "X" caliber hollow point people don't want to and they wont for all the storys that bad mouth 9mm people wont have confidince
By: FullmetaljacketJ. on 24 May 12, 04:53:08
I love to read ballistic reports for the caliber debate i do believe shot placement is key accept when a huge caliber difference resides. Bigger rounds = less compascity but at what cost? you always hear or read story's of military men and police? dumping nines into victims with them continuing to fire back or not being "Knocking down" by the shots you might hear people saying the 45 dosent work as well as people think it dose and i agree its not a death ray------
By: vnlk65n. on 24 May 12, 00:55:12
The problem with judging ones own accuracy is that square range preformance (even in competition) is completely out of touch with how people behave in real gun fights. Consider that statistically only 25% of soldiers in WW2 even shot to kill. As far as I'm concerned, betting on myself to be accurate on a two way range is like betting my life on a horse that's never set foot on a race track. The only stopping power? that exists is stopping power applied to the CNS... 9mm, .45, or 357.
By: vnlk65n. on 24 May 12, 00:39:17
It doesn't matter if you're shooting .380 or .44mag, you still need to hit vital organs. We're talking about? HANDGUNS. You realise that many people survived chest wounds from .30 cal rifles during WW2, right? If you're really hard enough to kill a person with one shot in the stress and confusion of a gunfight, caliber probably isn't going to matter too much to you anyways. As a mere mortal though, I think I'll hedge.
By: FullmetaljacketJ. on 23 May 12, 22:15:37
Why do it with 10 rounds when you can do it with one? All that 9 vs? 45 horse s*** Everyone seems to forget 357 and 44 I don't think anyone can withstand a 357 or 44 to upper mass dont care what drug your on.
By: TheLeadspreader. on 23 May 12, 18:24:01
There is an advantage either way, it all depends on the shooter, in the summer, i carry a Ruger SR9, because It's easier to conceal, it carries 17+1, but it is chambered in a 9mm luger, in the winter, i carry a ruger Vaquero, .45lc, since I'm always wearing bulkier clothes it is easier to conceal, and if you get hit? with a .45lc, you will feel it. Its all preference, I'm more accurate with the single action, and in some instances I'm faster because I can acquire my target quicker.
By: odins1337. on 23 May 12, 18:01:40
the muzzle flash from a 500 S&W is the best?
By: wendtone. on 23 May 12, 16:06:09
With revolvers? vs semi's and reloading , are you adding in the time to reload a mag?
By: bobshenix. on 23 May 12, 04:37:39
In a one-on-one, home defense situation... just a couple hits with a .357 magnum round will stop intruders. 9mm ammo.... not so much. But you are right, extra capacity is key for those who aren't accurate shooters. For those who ARE? accurate, stopping power is preferred. Don't forget that plenty of people have survived MULTIPLE 9mm wounds-- in the heat of the moment 9mm's won't stop the bad guy. He will continue shooting at you. That's why .45 cal semi-autos are also great nightstand pistols.
By: bobshenix. on 23 May 12, 04:27:46
Do you notice the earplugs Hickok is? wearing?? That's what people wear at the range for that same reason. Revolvers typically shoot very high-powered rounds than you can't shoot with your typical semi-auto pistol.
By: 13Psycho13. on 22 May 12, 19:36:52
I am 19, i just can't stand high/loud noises like fireworks and off course gunshots. This is really annoying, its not with loud music, just high pitched or sudden sounds. anyway, despite this is till? find Revolvers the most beautiful of guns even if it was made to kill or not, but yeah my ears..

By: highlandbutch. on 21 May 12, 17:50:25
i'm? an old shooter ( about your age or older ) i have 10 or so old revolers and love to drag out and leave the autos at home.
By: vnlk65n. on 20 May 12, 06:48:01
Better to have 10 rounds left over than one round too few.? There is no debating that. If you have an "accuracy issue," then switching to a revolver is not going to fix that. I agree that revolvers are definitely not obsolete, but having a 17 round capacity is a tremendous advantage.
By: igrungeisded. on 19 May 12, 04:51:29
@jaredshaffer One of the most common misconceptions is that having seventeen rounds is a HUGE advantage. First of all, if you need seventeen rounds to put down one man, then that's an accuracy issue. Second of all, take this scenario: 7 targets with guns. A 17-round Glock should get the job done right? Wrong. If there are seven targets,? even a fully automatic weapon won't stop them all before they can stop shooting. That's where cover is vital, and where reloading can be initiated.
By: teamcourier1. on 18 May 12, 21:27:58
hickhok? i have to say that first revolver is it called a sentinel revolver?
