Holdsworth wanted to be a sax player... the sax players should look up? holdsworths influences.

If Carl Sagan is Allan Holdsworth,? does that make Neil DeGrasee Tyson, Tosin Abasi? #PhilosoDjentraptor

Of course! I just heard that there are a bunch of sax players studying Holdsworth too. It isn't just guitar players that can learn from? Holdsworth. ANY musician can learn from Holdsworth.

Don't even need to delve into technical or progressive death metal. He was? a big influence on Van Halen and Uli Jon Roth (well, alongside Steve Hackett of Genesis). A really brilliant guitarist!

I'd like to hear someone? sing to this.

@CuttyButty I think all their albums are pretty good. Except systematic chaos, that wasnt too amazing.. Their new one's excellent though, i would say better than images or? awake. But meh, i guess its all down to preference.

I wish I knew what it feels like to have music like this? coming out of your body. Listening to it feels so good. I can't imagine actually playing.

Guthrie hasn't? made to big of an impact on metal yet and the only thing people get from Shawn Lane is his augmented licks and they always have to water them down because they can't play them correctly lol.

Images and Words and Awake albums are really good. They're not that good? now though.

Allan Holdsworth changed the way I perceive the fretboard and music in general. There is no? other electric guitarist who has such an incredibly identifiable sound and touch. His contributions to music and the electric guitar are immeasurable. Long live this giant.

@Fluffypopcicle No doubt about it, but thats all one genre. Of course their? influence can be seen in many types of music, but the names i mentioned are without question more important than them. And also im pretty certain that im not retarded...
By: Fluffypopcicle. on 24 Apr 12, 23:51:14
You're retarded. you see all the djent bands these days? Textures,? Periphery, Circles, Animals As Leaders etc. that's all thanks to Meshuggah. Meshuggah revolutionized musical rhythm by implenting extremely new and unique ways to use polymeters and polyrhythms. They are REVOLUTIONARY and that can easily be seen.
By: baaaarnsey. on 24 Apr 12, 16:00:23
Also, i mentioned stravinsky, Dream theater, and Miles davis because they all? changed music far more than meshuggah did. like i said in the comment.

@fightinboner Dont? ever say a band is terrible. There's no such thing as "bad" music. Only music that you dont like, for whatever reason that may be. That said, what do you find "legit terrible" about them?
By: fightinboner. on 24 Apr 12, 13:03:00
dream theater is legit terrible though.? there literally is no reason to mention stravinsky and miles davis in the same thought as them?
By: baaaarnsey. on 24 Apr 12, 07:19:34
@DominicHeuw He was? talking about the way he improvises, which is to play what you want to hear, not just use licks and shapes to improvise, and he said allan was a great example as he often sings along with what he is playing. I think guthrie does that too, and it is definitely the best way of going about improvising in my opinion.
By: DominicHeuw. on 23 Apr 12, 22:02:23
awesome, what did guthrie say about holdsworth? i mean in what context that was, technique or perhaps improv? the other video when he was briefly speaking about gypsy jazz, i was hoping for a second he would mention? Bireli Lagrene, another truly monster player. anyways I love it when players speak of other players, sort of acknowledging their peers and influences :)
