Patrick Chan - 2012 World Championship FS - My Commentary
Posted by: barkingtree88
Video duration: 367 seconds
NICE, France - Patrick Chan lands two quads to successfully defend his world title! He had a couple shaky moments and an uncharacteristic fall on a double axel attempt but it was still enough to win. There was no live commentary on Universal Sports so I had to commentate myself!

I don't think this is worthy of being called a "jump sequence," but still a solid effort!

The Russian kings have retired. Now we are stuck with these boring girlie north American skaters. Like I said before...this is ok skating because the competition is so so weak. He can think that he's one of the greats all he wants bt it's just simply not true. His federation just glams him up way too much for me. A bore. Even lysacek is another boring weakling who wins titles without any major difficulty. The new system allows girls to compete as? men. A bore

Yagudin and Plushenko were doing two quads in a program over 10 years ago. So were other skaters. When Chan manages to do more than a 4 3 3 and then a second quad, let's talk about taking figure skating to a new level. Give me? emotion on the ice, not edges. Even among today's skaters, Daisuke's skating skills are far better than Chan's.

This is ok for what everyone else is doing. However if he were competing against young plushenko or young yagudin then he would be out of luck cuz this would not fly. Very reminiscent of Takeshi Honda back in the day. Just kind of plain....like? most north American male figure skaters. I was over the deep edges three seasons ago.

These comments have to be from people who do not figure skate. With that kind of attitude, these haters won't achieve anything in life. Patrick Chan took men's figure skating to a new level, with multiple quads and did it while pushing the limits of the artistry of the field. People who cannot appreciate the significance? and the contribution to the art and sport of figure skating deserve to be out of the loop of what matters. I'm glad the judges know what they are doing.

really ? you're suck skater than Chinese! in Fact Japanese? are cannot skill harder than Chan, he's was always pracitcal everythings skating than japanese movement.. Not a robotic is he... Go play games little kid!

The last Olympic champ landed zero quad. Men's skating was floundering. Chan lifted the field and landed two clean quads here. Often the harshest comments to world champions come from people with no idea how to skate. Chan: This phenomenon doesn't make the world progress farther and better, like? you have been contributing to ice skating. So don't lose heart. i hope Chan will have a chance to read this and feel encouraged. For the same reason, I wish Daisuke and Hanyu the same wisdom.

i have it on good authority that the Japanese are developing a life-like robot that will figure skate. It will be able to do 50 quads/min and therefore take every gold medal? there is to be had. Of course everybody will boo but fuck that, all that matters is the gold
By: Haley452. on 04 Apr 12, 23:27:58
this is one of the biggest issues I have with him. Someone who is never clean, but always wins regardless (over his clean rivals) is just not gonna be a champion in my heart. And I don't care how deep his edges or how intricate his footworks? are.
By: Haley452. on 04 Apr 12, 23:25:42
D/W also had the audience on their feet and look, they lost? too. I have serious issues with judging at this event.
By: fure5891. on 04 Apr 12, 00:36:51
Agree.? Definitely didn't deserve to be in the all-time-best just like the skate canada believe.
By: fure5891. on 04 Apr 12, 00:35:17
He's a good skater, yes. But he didn't deserve the astronomical points he? got here. His performance is as interesting as watch the painting dry. No emotions at all. Look at the audience, only politely clapping for him. He didn't even manage to bring the whole stadium to their feet just like Caro, Dai, Yuzu, or P/B. Figure skating credibility is in serious trouble if he continuously gets propped up.
By: mrleicaflex. on 03 Apr 12, 19:26:59
how disappointing! He can never afford? a clean and flawless program!
By: valg321. on 03 Apr 12, 16:49:52
top comment?

No doubt that Patrick Chan is a really good skater, but I just don't feel inspired by his performances. He can certainly do his quads, triples, footwork, etc. but? I just sense he's too robotic when he's on the ice.
By: Galina Aleshina. on 03 Apr 12, 14:33:07
This? is not Yagudin...
By: NaPaF. on 03 Apr 12, 05:44:08
That would be a nightmare, god forbid :). If you want to get an idea? how artistry looks, there are some examples even in this WC: e.g. Takahashi.
By: angryjalapeno. on 02 Apr 12, 16:40:14
Maybe you can fault him for his preparation before jumps. But he had artistry and his choreography is really good. I guess if you? wanted him to flirt with you or show a little skin, you can try asking.
By: angryjalapeno. on 02 Apr 12, 16:37:15
I guess you missed out on his very fast skating,? intricate foot work, two very clean quad toes, multiple triples. And you forgot he got deducted points for his fall according to the scoring rules. And honestly he and his "C level competitors" can outskate the male skaters from 12 or even 8 years ago because they are more athletic now.

Thanks barkingtree for the upload and comments. Very useful for non-skaters like me. ?
