You should try it on another device or specifically another computer and see how it works. If it works on all others, it's the drive or possibly some software in your computer that's messing with it (no clue what would do that though). VLC Media Player comes with many built-in plug-ins, so if you're trying to watch a DVD or something, I would recommend just using that program rather than downloading many many codecs, as I have done that and WMP still doesn't play many formats properly.
